Tuning guide

The Astra VXR sees the start of a new branding for Vauxhall.  Released with a 2.0 turbocharged engine delivering 240PS out of the factory.

The standard Z20LEH engine is a heavily revised upgrade of the well-established Z20LET engine as found in the Astra GSi. This upgrade includes some excellent performance friendly components such as: forged pistons, under piston cooling oil jets, removal of harmonic balance shafts, revised engine management, larger capacity MAF, and larger injectors, providing plenty of scope for easy power gains

Straight out of the factory this engine produces power figures of 237bhp (240ps), with 235lbft (320nm) of torque, but has so much more to offer.

VXR Engine ECU tuning is offered using Rabbid Tuning ECU software with its proven calibrations, various options are available, such as launch control, over run pops (decel). Map switching, Antilag, No lift shift is also offered using Rabbid Rom V2. Click here for software info

Stage 1

The first step towards extracting more power from the 2.0 Turbo engine requires no hardware changes, this is a software only upgrade,  however, we do also recommend adding a pre cat removal pipe and performance panel filter.

With our 'Stage 1' software upgrades the following features are included:

WGM Stage 1 Tuning Package

Stage 2

The limitation for the cars power output is now the gas flow / back pressure out of the turbocharger, we therefore recommend fitting a free flowing turbo back exhaust system, with multiple sports cats and silencers options to suit your taste - a 3" setup is recommended for optimal gains

With our 'Stage 2' software upgrades the following are included:

  • Enhanced over run on Sports mode (optional)
  • Launch Control (optional)
  • Catalyst code removal to avoid EML lights

WGM Stage 2 Tuning Package

Stage 3

The next limitation to power output is air intake temperatures, with increased boost the standard intercooler is at the limit of its capabilities, therefore we now recommend installation of our upgraded and dyno proven intercooler to reduce intake temperatures and increase air flow through the inlet pipe work. This results in a car with more consistent power levels even in hot weather conditions and during prolonged hard usage. Read more about our intercooler testing here. The added benefit is the engine runs more efficiently overall, thus enabling the engine to produce more power with careful tuning strategies applied.

WGM Stage 3 Tuning Package

Stage 4

To maximise the standard turbocharger efficiency , which is flow limited by the standard exhaust manifold, we offer a choice of upgrading to a short runner inlet manifold or installing performance camshafts to release an extra 10-15HP.

With our 'Stage 4' software upgrades the following are included:

  • Increased Rev limiter (7500RPM)
  • Increased Idle RPM
  • Enhanced over run on Sports mode (optional)
  • Launch Control (optional)
  • Catalyst code removal to avoid EML lights

WGM Stage 4 Tuning Package

Stage 4.5

In order to extract every last drop of power without upgrading to a tubular exhaust manifold we install a package comprising of a short runner inlet manifold, high lift camshafts and a hybrid turbocharger.

With our 'Stage 4.5' software upgrades the following are included:

  • Increased Idle RPM
  • Enhanced over run on Sports mode (optional)
  • Launch Control (optional)

Stage 5

Our stage 5 packages are well known for pushing the limits of the 2.0L engines, We offer motorsport turbochargers with beautiful hand made tubular exhaust manifolds. We can also offer additional supporting modifications such as : Uprated clutch/flywheel packages, uprated engine mounts, limited slip differentials, even more aggressive camshafts, uprated valve train components such as double springs and even the valves themselves and we also offer fully Blueprinted engine builds for those looking for maximum output.

With our 'Stage 5' software upgrades the following are included:

  • Complete Bespoke Remapping service,
  • ECU Calibration to suit 90mm MAF
  • ECU Calibration to suit Larger Injectors

OUR SERVICES INCLUDE

Dyno Testing

All ECU remaps are carried out on our State of the Art Dyno Dynamics Dynotech rolling road, which can accurately read upto 1200HP

Data Logging

Each car is hooked up to a Wide band lambda sensor to ensure correct air to fuel ratio, along with data logging tools to ensure Boost, Ignition timing parameters are all in check

Diagnostic Check

We carry out a pre and post tuning ECU diagnostic trouble code check (DTC) to ensure no faults are present before or after tuning
